FUNctionalFITness55+ was established in Galway in 2017 by Carrie Budds – a qualified and experienced Personal Trainer & Fitness Instructor.

Our classes are designed in a way to help you train in a way that you are not currently doing.
Our focus is on strength, mobility & functional fitness.

It is now widely accepted that strength training for adults is beneficial not just for fitness, but also to help improve functional strength and flexibility.

And the good news is, it’s never too late to start!

You can achieve the benefits at any age, and from the minute you start.
So this means they will benefit you in all areas of your life – from assisting with weightloss, to making day-to-day movements easier, and to progressing your current fitness level and improving any sport or physical activity that you are already doing.

Our training also helps to improve existing conditions, and also prevent or decelerate others, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, poor balance, heart disease and diabetes.

Power and Core
The core region consists of far more than just the abdominal muscles. In fact core strength training aims to target all the muscles groups that stabilize the spine and pelvis.
Core strength is vital when it comes to keeping your balance, staying strong and assisting sporting activities such as walking, jogging, golf, bowls, swimming etc.
We combine the core activities with general strength training for other areas of the body so that power can be regained.
Ideal for those with a good level of general cardio fitness who are looking to improve core strength and regain power to assist with their current activities.

General Fitness
This class is suitable for people at all fitness levels – we combine cardio exercise, strength training, mobility movements, flexibility and everything in between! We use various equipment and bodyweight exercises to keep the blood pumping and to feel invigorated. So if you’re a beginner looking to get back to exercise, or an avid walker who wants to get stronger and feel better, then this is the class for you.

Mobility & Movement
This class is a comprehensive mobility and movement class. It is ideal for those with restricted mobility due to conditions such as arthritis, or for those who have been unable to exercise in the recent past due to injury or illness.
We work with chair-based exercise, balance work, resistance bands, light weights and more.

Strength & Tone
This is our longest-running class and is similar to the General Fitness class but slightly more advanced. We combine mobility work, strength training, TRX and core work to get strong and lean (and we have plenty of fun while we do it 😉 )
